How do I get my power steering pump off of my 1993 Chevy K1500?
I need to get the bracket off to off of the power steering Pump to put a new line on.
I take it you are trying to install a new pressure hose from the pump to the steering gear and the nut on the back of the pump is trying to spin instead of the hose nut. If that is the case, it is pretty normal. You have to hold the pump fitting nut tight to the pump while turning off the hose fitting. This sounds easy but it’s extremely difficult if you don’t have the right tools. We used to use a special wrench that is 1″ but very short with almost the whole circle except for a break in the wrench to fit it through and over a line. Then use a line wrench or a ratchet/extension fitted line wrench to loosen. Since you don’t sound like you have these, you will have to get a pulley puller to remove the PS pulley to access the pump mount bolts. This is a special tool as well. I know, they don’t make it easy. I have done this too. Have a buddy hold the big PS nut on the back tight. While he holds it, put a good flat cold chisel against the hose fitting and give it a good whack in the counter clock direction and hopefully it will break loose. No way to do an easy one here.
