Is there an easy fix to the front main seal on an engine, without taking the engine apart?
I was hoping there would be some kind of advanced adhesive out there somewhere. Or some amazing gasket sealer that can be added to the engine. (It’s an incredibly fast leak) I have purchased a product called Vibra-bond which might just do the trick, but I want to double check with some friendly gearheads first. I have a 350 V-8 on a 1987 Suburban.
just remove the drive belts…then remove the crank pully and the harmonic balancer…then pry the seal out with a suitable tool then tap the new one in place…on most applications they make a sleeve to put over the front of the crankshaft to ensure a good seal…then just put it back together and run it.. In most cases not a real big job. I have seen also where on these engines…the timing chain gets so loose it will wear a hole in the timing cover…if it’s leaking that bad this may be your problem. it’s still not that big of a job…remove the water pump then remove the timing cover just to be sure…it’s a wise move if it’s leaking that bad…a seal normally don’t leak that bad.
