How do remove the power steering pulley from a 1993 Chevy Astro Van?
I need to know how to use the power steering pullery puller installer kit as well as how to remove the power steering pulley. I’ve been working on it all morning and now I’m covered in grease and can’t get the darned thing out! HELP! Please be as detailed as possible and maybe pictures will help (on how to use the kit and all that) Thanks!!!
ok the install kit will not pull it. its for install only its a mini press. you put the nut on the bolt put the washer on the assy on the thread side of the bolt behind the nut. thread the bolt in all the way the tighten the nut till pulley is in alignment. you may have to use a socket as well to clear the power steering shaft if the shape sticks out past the pulley, so make a mental note of the length of shaft sticking out.
next to remove actually first you either go to harbour freight and buy a power steering pulley remover, if your a fabricator make one, or go to an auto store that rents tools(dont buy there expensive). it has a similar long bolt and a nest. the nest is like 2 1/2 moons that surround the ring on middle of the pulley. there is a piece goes on the bolt first. stack the 2 moons on it and engaged in that groove. then a metal ring goes on. this locks the moons to the “press assembly” or “pull assembly” when you have it together you hold the pulley tight and wrench it off. if you dont have an air ratchet(might work) then wrap the belt around the pulley to hold it while you tighten the bolt. it will slip it right off easy as 1-2-3. miracle tools what would we do without em. wanna know how to use a brake plier, a girl showed me. now they work great. i was a mechanic for 15 yrs when that happened. grew up in the shop.
