What is wrong with my Power steering in my 2000 Malibu?
I have a 2000 malibu. When turning my powersteering doesnt work and its VERY hard to turn the wheel. What could be wrong with it?
I have a 2000 malibu. When turning my powersteering doesnt work and its VERY hard to turn the wheel. What could be wrong with it? I got it Stuck in a MUDDY ditch and the tow truck pulled it out and since then it doesn’t work.
The power steering fluid is full.
I would check to see if the power steering pump is spinning. Turn the wheel with the hood up to see if the pump picks up load (you should be able to tell by the sound. If there are no leaks anywhere, the pump may be shot. Also, I don’t know this particular car, but if it has rack and pinion steering, you could have damage to that unit which will make steering very difficult. I would take it to a trusted mechanic who can home in on the problem. Repairs to rack and pinion steering is expensive $500 or more for a replacement unit. The power steering pump can be replace for about $125. Good luck.
