i applied the brakes and the car shook and then lost all power. Why? 98 Altima Automatic.?
The stop sign was about 5 houses away from mine. I had to put the car in park to get my key out then i restarted it and it did the same thing. Then i started it again, put the heat on and drove aroudn the block without a problem. What would cause the car to lose all power?
Did the car feel like it was bogging down? Try putting the car in manual low or manual 2nd and see if the problem comes back.
If not, then you possibly have a torque converter staying applied in your transmission causing the transmission to bog down the engine at a stop.
If problem is still present, then you’ve got a problem with the idle control management on your vehicle.
Either way, this is a interesting problem and I would recommend you get it checked by a certified mechanic before anything gets worse!
